When I ventured out to find something unusual on my walk I suspected to find something small, nothing too extravagant, but what stood out most was how far the tide was out. It was probably the farthest I had seen before. Usually you can see some of the ocean but it almost looked like the ocean had dried up or disappeared. I also came across a big slug on my walk, which was another unexpected sight!
This challenge made me think about perspective and storytelling. I pretty much go for a walk by the ocean everyday during the summer but seeing the tide further out than usual changed how I viewed the landscape. It reminded me that interesting stories don’t always come from something dramatic or rare. Sometimes it can come from looking at a familiar place differently.
When thinking about the dullest video on earth, the first thing that came to mind was a stop light. I filmed myself waiting at one. Nothing happens except waiting, which I thought made the perfect choice. The funniest part of making this video was when I was intentionally trying to get stopped at a red light, they were all green!
This challenge helped me think about what makes a video engaging and what doesn’t. Without movement, action, or a story, there is very little to hold the viewer’s attention. It made me realize how important those elements are when creating media.
