For this week’s daily creates, the first prompt I chose was: When life gives you sunshine.

When life gives you sunshine,

Take the long way home.

Walk a little slower,

Stay a little longer,

And let the warmth soak in.

The rainy days always return,

But so does the sun.

Sometimes all we can do

Is enjoy it while it lasts.

For my second one, I chose: What was your worst decision ever?

My worst decision ever was attempting a backflip on skis.

It was a huge powder day, and I felt invincible. The snow was deep, the conditions were perfect, and I convinced myself that even if I messed up, the powder would protect me. Unfortunately, I was very wrong.

I landed awkwardly and immediately knew something was wrong with my knee. I couldn’t ski down the mountain and had to be taken down by ski patrol in a rescue sled. A few months later, I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery.

The recovery was much harder than I expected. My leg muscles atrophied significantly, and months of physiotherapy followed. Even now, three years later, my knee still doesn’t feel quite the same as it did before the injury.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from this experience was the importance of mindset. During my recovery there were many moments when I felt like I was making no progress at all. I kept replaying the accident in my head and asking myself why I thought attempting a backflip was a good idea. For a long time, I struggled to let it go. However, once I stopped focusing on the mistake and started focusing on what I could control, that’s when the real progress started.

I learned that progress is not always obvious, and sometimes the hardest part is continuing to put the work in even when it was painful and felt like I was going nowhere. Looking back, the experience taught me the value of resilience, patience, and maintaining a positive mindset, even when the process is difficult. Over time, all of those small efforts added up and led to significant improvements.

Lastly, I chose: Pick one photo and write its backstory.

Hello, my name is Gerald.

But you can call me Casanova.

Or at least I thought I was.

You see, I’ve always been pretty successful with the ladies. A charming smile here, a witty comment there, and before you know it, I’ve got a date lined up for Friday evening.

Life was good.

Then a new meerkat colony moved in next door.

That’s when I saw her.

The most beautiful meerkat I had ever laid eyes on.

Her name was Moxi.

She had the shiniest fur, perfect posture, and always looked so elegant while digging for grubs.

After several failed attempts to casually introduce myself, including one incident involving me running into a cactus and another involving an accidental faceplant into a sand dune, I finally convinced her to go on a date with me.

Success.

Or so I thought.

The problem was that, in my excitement, I had completely forgotten that I had already made plans with another meerkat named Daisy.

Not only had I forgotten.

I had accidentally arranged both dates for the exact same time.

At the exact same place.

The watering hole.

To be fair its has been my go to ever since I can remember

As I arrived, I spotted Daisy sitting on one side of the watering hole.

Panic.

Then I looked to my left.

There was Moxi.

Double panic.

For a brief moment I considered digging a tunnel and starting a new life somewhere else.

Unfortunately, it was too late.

Both of them had seen me.

Both of them realized what had happened.

The photo you see here captures the exact moment I understood that my career as “Gerald the Casanova” was coming to an end.

Needless to say, neither date went particularly well.

On the bright side, Moxi and Daisy became friends.

I fear I will never live this one down, but a meerkat can dream.
